Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell supercar

SLS AMG E-Cell that was confirmed for production in Detroit in January will be available in 2013. Its electric powertrain gives the E-Cell a 0-100 km/h (63 mph) time of 4.0 seconds, compared to the SLS AMG's 0-100 km/h time of 3.8 seconds. When it comes to top speed, both cars are electronically limited. The E-Cell can hit 250 km/h (155 mph), while the SLS AMG tops out at 317 km/h (197 mph). While not quite the equal of the gas-powered SLS AMG, the E-Cell is clearly in supercar territory

The all-electric, all-wheel drivetrain is a product of a two year long joint development effort of Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth, England. A one motor per wheel electric design, the four synchronous electric motors rev up to 12,000 rpm (a governor prevents operation at higher speeds) and provide a peak output of 525 horsepower and a peak torque of 650 foot-pounds.

New Volvo V40 is the first car to feature pedestrian airbags

Debuting at the Geneva Motor Show, the all-new Volvo V40 possesses some high-tech features, including the world's first pedestrian airbag system. The five-door, five-seater sibling to the Volvo C30 features (as standard) front bumper sensors that register the physical contact between the car and a pedestrian. When impact occurs, a section of the bonnet (closest to the windscreen) is released and elevated by the deployment of the airbag. The inflated airbag covers the area under the raised bonnet, around one-third of the windscreen as well as the lower section of the A-pillar. The system is designed to help to reduce the severity of pedestrian injuries.

The Volvo V40 also features updated City Safety technology, Lane Keeping Aid with haptic auto steering, automatic Road Sign Information, Active High Beam technology and Park Assist Pilot Cross Traffic Alert.

Zagato AC 378 GT relaunches classic car brand

Under the carbon composite bodywork is a steel-tube frame and a 6.2 liter V8 engine cranking out 434 bhp. This shoots it from 0 to 60 mph (100 kph) in less than four seconds. Top speed still isn't public, but with a power to weight ratio of 292.55 bhp/ton (220.48 kW/tonne), it isn't going to be spending too much time getting passed on the motorway.

Mercedes A-Class launched at Geneva

There are three turbo-charged petrol 4 cylinder engines at 115 hp (86 kW), 156 hp (116 kW) and 211 hp (157 kW), and three turbo-diesel 4's at 109 hp (81 kW), 136 hp (101 kW) and 170 hp (127 kW).
As is the case these days the options lists are long and varied but standard packages named "Urban" (i.e. base) and "Style" (i.e. regular) are offered. A new six-speed manual box is standard - a interesting development for MB, or the 7-speed dual-clutch auto can be specified.
