2012 Mercedes C-Class Launched – Live From Event


Mercedes-Benz has launched the all new C-Class in India. The 2012 Mercedes C-Class is available in Avantgarde trim only in both petrol and diesel version. The company will launch the Elegance variants and C63 AMG to the C-Class line up by the end of the year. The C200 CGI (petrol) is powered by a 1796 cc engine which produces 186 BHP of power at 5600 RPM and 285 Nm of torque at 2400-4000 RPM. The engine is mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission and the C200 weighs in at 1585 kgs. The C250 CDI (diesel) is powered by 2143 cc motor which produces 204 BHP of power at 4200 RPM and 500 Nm of torque at 1600-1800 RPM. This engine is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission and the C250 weighs 1655 kgs. The C200 CGI is priced at Rs. 29.79 lakhs, while the C250 CDI is priced at Rs. 32.30 lakhs (all prices ex-showroom, New Delhi).
Mercedes-Benz has priced the new C-Class less than the model it replaces. The new petrol C-Class is Rs. 10,000/- cheaper than the old model, while the diesel C-Class is Rs.90,000/- cheaper than the old C-Class. Both the variants of the C-Class come shod with 225/45/17 tyres. The C-Class now features day time running lights, intelligent light system (adaptive headlights), panoramic sunroof, attention assist, agility control, selective damping system, braking drying function, adaptive brakes (ABS and ASR), hill climb assist, Pre Safe, Neck Pro and advanced parking guide system. The new C-Class has over 2000 new parts and the company is targeting the youth with the launch of the new model. Mercedes-Benz has shown a 40% year-on-year growth in the first 7 months and claims to be the leader in the C-Class segment. The company sold 4890 units till August and has 55 service outlets in the country. Mercedes-Benz receives 65% demand for diesel cars in its portfolio but with the C-Class they receive more response for the petrol than the diesel.
